After the Ju 287, very few models or mock-ups of forward-swept wing aircraft were ever completed. In the late 1970s, after years of design study, the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contracted Grumman Aerospace Corporation to create a forward-swept wing research plane -- the X-29.
